When was the last time you went on a real old-fashioned picnic? It doesn't even have to be in the woods--although it would be more authentic.
You could picnic on the roof of your apartment building, at a city park, the beach, a tailgate party, or even your own backyard.
All you need are a few friends, your kids or grandkids, a blanket, some home-cooked comfort foods and a nice sunny day.
It's cheaper than going out to eat and you'll entertain the kids to boot.
When was the last time you went on a picnic?

The last time was when the dog and I went because no one else would!
My partner is a vampire and might burst into flames if sunlight hits him. Both step-kids hate the outdoors and taking them would mean endless bellyaching that results in me losing my temper and just packing everything up and heading back.
So, now? I just take the dog and she gets rewarded by having her very own sandwich! We have a woodsy park right next to our house, so I don't even need to go far.
In fact....that sounds like a plan for lunch today!

Wow, way too long. So far back, in fact, I can't remember. Okay, adding to this summer's do-list. Go on a picnic.

It has been far too long since we've been on a picnic. This must be rectified!
Thanks, Maria.

Earlier this year my sister was visiting and I'm pretty sure we did picnic at some point. We do that pretty often when we go to the beach or canoeing on the river. It would be to darn hot for it here at the moment.

Krista: That is so sad that your kids don't like to be outdoors. They must be aliens. LOL! At least the dog has good taste in company. :)

Linda: It would be a great activity with the grandkids.
***
Angela: When Greg and I were very poor, this was what we did when we wanted to go "out" to eat. LOL.
Looking back, it was one of my fondest memories.

Charlie: I hear ya on the hot. This time of year, it's either out early or picnic late.
The Dallas Arboretum has some wonderful concerts at night and they encourage people to bring picnic dinners. I've never had a picnic at night.

Darling Blogger ate my comment so here I am again and maybe this time it will stay Maria! LOL
Last "al fresco" dining we did was in 1995 or so when we were vacationing with my MIL and FIL. We stopped at a park in Alpine Texas on our way to or from Big Bend National Park, too long ago to remember which, and we fixed a meal on a camp stove as my MIL had brought a cooler with eggs and milk and a box of staples with the rest of the food to cook pancakes and toast for breakfast/brunch.
Best meal since "camp fire cooking" with my Mom and Dad when I was a child!

Jackie: This is weird because it showed up on my email notification. I'll betcha it got tangled in the moderation page--which is crazy because you've commented here before.
Your story reminds me how my mother would pack a big cooler of lunches when we went on a long vacation trip and she'd call it a picnic so none of us kids would grumble about not stopping at a restaurant.

Last summer. It's on the list for this summer too. We have a big green area near by that hosts movies Friday and Saturday nights. The wee beasties pick the movies they want to see, I pack a picnic dinner, and we have awesome family nights.
This year, the movies seem to be appealing to the boys separately, so I imagine I'll get a few date nights out of the little monsters, LOL
